With OniKanji, all kanji levels for your level are available to you from the very start—no waiting or unlocking required. You set the pace! Whether you want to tackle 4 lessons a day or all 20, it's completely up to you. Our smart learning algorithm ensures you’re always learning effectively, maximizing your progress with every session.
Take a Moment to Soak It All In
Dive into the Primary Meaning, On'yomi and Kun'yomi readings for each kanji. Take your time to absorb this knowledge—it's all part of the journey! You'll get a chance to reinforce what you've learned with quizzes using vocabulary and context sentences in the reviews section.
This is where the real learning magic happens! Dive into the vocabulary words linked to each kanji reading and explore the sample sentences crafted by our in-house expert, Makoto Sensei. These sentences are carefully designed to reflect common patterns you'll encounter in both spoken and written Japanese.
By familiarizing yourself with kanji in these everyday contexts, you'll find that they stick with you more quickly and naturally.
Let's make sure you're starting off strong! Head over to the Training Grounds for a quick quiz on the kanji you've just learn ed. Studies show that if you can recall information shortly after learning it, you're more likely to retain it in the long run. That's why we'll gradually extend the review intervals until these kanji are locked into your memory.

Don’t worry if your review queue is empty right now—good things take time! Remember, you’ve just completed your first round of spaced repetition reviews. From here, we'll take care of the rest by setting up your review queue based on your unique learning decay curve.
The goal is to give you reviews at the optimal time for maximum retention. After you finish reviewing a kanji in the Training Grounds, it’ll pop back into your review stack in about 15-30 minutes.
