こんにちは、OniKanjiチームです。よろしくお願いします。
We are excited to officially announce our Alpha launch! After nearly two years of research and a year of development, we’ve handcrafted a kanji learning web app designed to help you learn kanji like a native—in context.
And it’s all powered by you. OniKanji is more than just an SRS. Each user helps train their own personalized learning algorithm. We use your behavior to optimally determine question types and difficulty levels. This means you can focus on studying kanji while we identify the areas where you need a little extra help.
And of course, we didn’t forget about those satisfying micro dopamine hits. We provide a wide variety of stats you can track along the way. Watch yourself grow over time and see your progress in real time!
We follow the Joyo kanji list combined with a frequency-based approach. This means we teach kanji in the same curriculum and order that native Japanese children learn in school.
Say goodbye to irrelevant radicals or mnemonics that aren't useful for everyday reading and comprehension. Our goal isn’t just rote memorization. We aim to help you read and understand kanji—not just for how they look, but for what they mean in context.
Vocabulary and kanji are taught side by side, with example sentences providing context for each kanji. This makes lessons stick and kanji easier to pick up.
We don’t punish you for making mistakes. No experience points (XP) loss, no getting stuck on a single kanji for months. Instead, we give you hints and focus more on helping you tackle those particularly tricky kanji.
Kanji learning is hard enough without a 500-review backlog. We limit your review queue to the most impactful items, feeding you less essential kanji when you have more space in your review stack.
Our example sentences and context are built by native speakers. As you progress, we ensure fewer unknown kanji appear in your sentences, gradually increasing the complexity. This scaffolded approach builds your knowledge as you go.
More kanji levels:
We are currently launching with 5 kanji levels and will continue to deliver new levels at rapid pace.
Expanded Stats & Features:
We are currently gathering all feedback and developing new features based on user engagement and experience.
More quiz question types:
We are working to expand functionality on quizzes to include more question types to further challenge and enhance your learning experience.
Your feedback is critical in shaping the future of OniKanji. While we’ve worked hard to get here, there’s still much more to come, and your input will help us polish and refine the experience.
